Chapter 2

DRISHTI' POV

Suddenly the light came at the right time. So I removed that cloth from my eyes, and believe me, I was shocked to see who the man was. Which caused me to laugh.

And I started laughing,
legit,I just started laughing, and I also heard laughs from my surroundings.

"Nirav Bhaiya you."

"Hahahaha who covers a girl's eyes like that, huh?"

"Ohh, please, it's not my regular job to cover every pretty lady's eyes, you idiot."

{ Real life me bhai pretty toh nhi bolega isiliye fictional bhai se bulwa diya }

Standing up, he retorted back, and he turned me around.

"Oh my God."

Am I dreaming... seriously?

They have planned a surprise birthday party for me; they have no idea what it means to me.

All the elders, the one who takes care of the children, Patel uncle, aunty, my idiot brother, and all my lovely children are wearing a birthday hat on their heads, looking cute, and the cake in the centre. The scenery is beautiful.

My eyes are already filled with water (tears).

I thought everyone had forgotten my birthday because no one other than my relatives and some friends wished me. I was in my trance, but my thoughts had to stop here because my brother interrupted that.

"Ghochu ab kya dekhti hi rahegi, chal aaja cake cut karte hai,"

("Ghochu, will you just keep staring? Come on, let's cut the cake!")

I slapped him on the shoulder.

"I think you need more of what happened a few moments ago" while stretching my arms and cracking my fingers, I said.

"No, my cute little sister, you just give me the sweets you have brought. Why are you carrying this when I am here at your service?"

He exclaimed, taking the bag full of sweets from my hand.

"Didi...didi" children came towards me and we had some interaction. Then they took me near the cake; thus, we cut the cake, and I enjoyed it there.

We played some games and musical chairs, and the kids performed for me; they were so cute that my heart was overwhelmed seeing them dance out.
I thanked all of them who participated in this to make my day. At last, it was time to leave them, and I didn't want to, but I had to.

"Nirav Bhai chale ghar ... time ho raha hai."
("Nirav Bhai, let's go home... it's getting late.")

"Yes, Bachha, wait, let me bring our car here."

I was standing outside the ashram and was playing the whole scenario of today-what if Papa was here too-to celebrate my birthday because I don't have any expectations from Mom.

Peep peep

"Do you want to stay here tonight?" Bhaiya asked from inside, sitting in the car.

Yes, I don't want to go from here.

"No, no, I am coming."

Then I took my passenger seat, and we continued our journey to our house.

"How was your day, sista?" Bhai tried to start a conversation with me.Trying to ease myself from my over occupied mind .

"Nothing different; I went to the library, studied there, and then the little party you arranged."
Fidgeting with my bracelet, I told him.

"Well, did you have fun with the children?"

"Yes, Bhai, they are so cute."

He continued driving while I inhaled the outside chaos of the late-night scene of street lights and the hustle and bustle of people. There I noticed a car was behind us from where we started our journey. I thought maybe we had the same destination, so I shrugged it off .
But still something in me was bothered
Maybe something is about to happen. Later I heard a song being played, and I gave a side eye to my brother.
He can't sit silently.
Can he ?

"Don't overthink; just live in the moment, Baccha. I will handle everything."

I just nodded, but only I knew what was going to happen to me. Well, aren't birthdays supposed to be happy? Then why do we have to cry most on this day? Everything falls apart on this particular day.

WHY ??

With this -
We reached our house; we both got out of the car, and I was afraid that if Mom was sitting in the living room, I didn't want to face her.
Taking steps, I tried to knock, but the door was already open.

Take a deep breath.

Drishti ..relax!!

I entered first, then Nirav Bhaiya also came behind me, and he left for his room as he got an important call from his secretary Miss.Meera , wishing me good night .
So I went to the kitchen to fetch a water bottle for myself.
There is some unknown silence. That's what I thought as, out of nowhere, Mom entered the scene with rage. She came towards me and held my right hand tightly, definitely leaving her fingerprints causing the bottle in my hand to slip on the floor with a thud.
She questioned me.

"Where were you the whole day, huh? Tell me fast."

"I... I..was in the library."

"Don't lie to me, I got to know you were partying with some beggars."

"They are not beggars."

"Then who told you to waste our hard-earned money on them? Today is not something special that you are spending money on."

"The money was mine; I don't use a single penny from you."

"Don't argue with me and keep your eyes down while talking to me, or else you know what I will do."

Without saying anything further, I left for my room.

Shutting the door, and throwing the mobile phone on the bed with so much force. Slipping on the ground, keeping my bag on my side, asking myself-

What is her issue with me?

What have I ever done to her?

After some moments I stood up and went to the bathroom to freshen up myself.
Standing near my dressing table, applying moisturiser to my right hand carefully, it has turned a little red.
But I noticed a small box kept near the mirror. I opened it, and it had a pair of Jhanjhar (payal).

Yeh diya kisne hoga?? I stared in confusion!!
Who kept them there?

There was a red coloured note attached to it, but I ignored. I was not in the mood to read, so I kept it like that only.
Maybe it's a gift from Bhaiya. I should keep it safe, so I opened my almirah and kept them there.
With this, I wrote in my diary about my day today,
Tomorrow I have to go to the hospital, and I will be busy, so who cares what is happening in this damn house?
Before sleeping, I was packing my stuff for tomorrow, but I noticed my key chain, which always hangs from my bag, is broken, just like my life.
There was a cute little panda. But now it's only a small chain piece hanging.
Oh, my favourite cute key chain. I think it must be on my hospital shelf; otherwise, in the hospital. Will check tomorrow! Keeping things in my bag, I adjusted my bed sheets, placed all things in their right place, and drifted off to sleep.

Morning time

I woke up a little late, so I hurriedly did my morning business and rushed downstairs to the kitchen, where Kaka passed me sandwiches that I would be eating on my way to the hospital.

"Thank you, and bye, kaka." I appreciated his work and left from there. Bhai must be heading to the company; I will also leave with him.

As I rushed outside, Bhai's car was nowhere to be found.

What now!
Drishti run beta !!

I reached near the road and showed my hand for the auto, but I was getting ignored.

After 4-5 minutes. Finally, an auto was found, and I started my journey, and guess what happened after 15 minutes?
I was met with amazing traffic, but my hospital was a little near still 5 minutes walking distance, so I paid the auto driver and started walking.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, raindrops started falling. I tried walking faster because there was no place to stand under a roof. I have also forgotten my umbrella.

Moral: When you get late, the whole world will work against you and try to make you more late.

"Hey Drishti,"

I heard my name from behind. I turned around and met with my friend Nisha Sharma.
She was carrying an umbrella, so she came to me fast, and now we were both sharing her umbrella.

"Hey," I replied with no emotion.

Yesterday was my birthday, and she just wished me with a WhatsApp message, so it's high time to be angry with her.

"Kal ki baat se gussa hai?" I ignored her
("Are you angry about yesterday?")

"Achha baat bhi nahi karegi." Trying to act cute, huh?
( "Oh, so you won't even talk?")

But I still ignored her. On our way, she was continuously trying to talk to me, but I tried to ignore her and only answered with hmm and thumbs up. When we reached near the parking area as we were late, we entered from the shortcut, which is from the backside where the parking lot lies, but it has water filled on some spots.

When Nisha was closing her umbrella, a car at full speed entered, and all the dirty water splashed on my pants, leaving me all dirty.
Nisha kept the umbrella in front of us to save us from the muddy water, but as she was a little late, the water had already made its way to my clothes.

That muddy rascal... ugh,

He didn't even say sorry to us; he just left like that something was wrong;

Iss baat se mujhe itna toh ptaa lag gya
Today is not my day.

We will see him later. I checked the time, and it was 9:25 AM for the lecture.

Bhaago time ho gya lecture ka !
("Run, it's time for the lecture!")

We both quickly went to our respective lectures because we were from different departments. I am going for a paediatrician (babies doctor) and Nisha as a dentist in the future.

I will forgive her after this because I can't stay mad for a long time. After clearing the mess on my pants, I entered my class; luckily, the seniors were not present as they were taking a lecture today.

I will change my pants after this lecture.
In the hospital, we always keep our extra clothes, so it's not an issue for today.

For that car owner, -
I wish uske gaadi ka tyre puncture ho jaaye.
( I wish his tyre would get punctured)

I wish uske car me pura paani Bhar jaaye Aur vo bhi bheeg jaaye usme.

( "I wish his car gets filled with water and he gets drenched in it too." )

I wish uske ghar ke tap se kichad ka pani aaye.
( "I wish the tap in his house starts flowing with muddy water." )

I guess itna kafi hai uske liye .
( I guess it's enough for him )

So I did my studies and checked up in the hospital. All the babies I met today were so good; they were not crying, so in all, it was a happy sight for me with their cute smiles.

While leaving the hospital, I called Nisha at the canteen to have lunch with me. I can't, stay angry with her because she knows a little bit about me.
I don't overshare things, and she doesn't have a problem with that. That's why we have been together since our 11th grade.

"Drishti sorry na yaar, dekh me tere liye special aloo ka paratha laayi hu."

("Drishti, sorry na yaar, look, I've brought you a special aloo ka paratha.")

"From next time, don't do this, okay? Or I will not talk to you."

"Okay darling."

"Achha, now give me my paratha."

Then we both went to the canteen, and she shared her tiffin with me. Later, she went to her home because her mother called her for something important.
As I didn't want to go to my house, I decided to proceed to my favourite library; there, I would do some time pass or help Mr Patel.

"Hey uncle," I entered the library with enthusiasm, and as usual, he was writing the data of books being issued from there.

"Hello, Bachhe, you are here today?" His frown indicates that he is asking me a question.

"Ohh, that today's work is all wrapped up, and Nirav Bhai is also not at home, so I just came here directly from the hospital."

I retorted back, taking my place on his side chair, and I read some of my books and helped Uncle with his work. That's how my evening went smoothly; now it's time to head back to my house.
"Bye, uncle, take care," I waved at him, leaving from there.

His library is close to our house-not too close but close enough. I wanted to walk, so I didn't go for an auto; I just had to cross the road, and I would be there.
Somehow, my sight fell upon a small boy whose clothes were untidy, a little torn, selling some balloons while another girl had expensive chocolates from a nearby shop .

Watching him being sad I marched towards that shop, bought lots of chocolate, and gave 2 of them to that boy, informing him to go tell others I was here.
After 2-3 minutes, other cute boys and girls came. I gave them chocolates and Haaye, their pretty smiles, made me genuinely happy.

On the other hand, I heard someone say,
"Side, please."
I turned back, saw a scooter coming towards me, and before I could register anything, someone pulled my arm and saved me.

"Are you blind ? How irresponsible is your behaviour? What if something had happened to you?"
I took a deep breath and said, "Chill relax, Bhai; see, I am all okay; you are there for me to save."

"What if I was not present here?"
Nirav Bhai retorted with some anger.

Maybe someone had a bad day at work!!

I just hugged him and gave him the best hug I could give.

"I know you will always reach on time ,so why think of that?"
"Stop acting like the innocent person now and let's head back to our jail."

"Yup"

We both sat in the car and drove to our house.

I was just unbuckling the seat belt but stopped on track.
"Drishti listen!!"
Getting out of the car, he came towards me. "Yes, Bhai," I replied to him.
"Did she hit you yesterday?"
Eyeing my face, he questioned me. "Why are you asking this suddenly?"

"Don't lie to me; I can see the mark on your hand."
Tracing his finger on my hand . I can see the rage in his eyes now.

"Y-yes, but Bhai."

"Come with me."

He grabbed my hand, directing us to our house.

I am trying to stop him. "Bhai please listen to me,"

"Mrs Mehta , come out "
Bhai started shouting as we entered the house .

"Mrs Mehta"

"What happened beta"
She came towards us , eyeing me to which I lowered my eyes and tried to stop him from creating any scene.

"Don't call me beta (son) , I am not your son"
He left my hand and pointed a finger at her.

"But you are"

"Ohh please, I don't consider you our mother "

"How dare you talk to me like that ? "
Mom tried to slap him but he held her hand and threw back with a force.

"And how dare you , raise your filthy hand on my sister huh !! "

"How dare you ?"

"So she complained about me to you such a coward "

Folding her hands ,like a maniac she stood there.

"If she used our money for unnecessary people, I am going to raise my hand again "

"If you did this again , I will forget who you are to our father or today will be the last day you will see my face , keep this thing in your head Mom "
Mom comes as a mocking .

Casually shrugging his shoulders he said this , and Mom's eyes widened , there she tried to convince him that he can't do this to her .

"One more thing, she is not coward , the real coward is you"

"Bhai leave it , there is no point to argue"

This lady only knows how to manipulate people and use them for her good only.

"If you tried to do any other thing to her , remember what secrets will be revealed " with that bhai left the room and went out .

But she held my hand , I turned towards her and she smirked faintly.
"Do you really think you will get out of this maze of mine?"
" How many times do you think Nirav will help you ?
One way or another he will leave too ."

With this statement she left from there, and I buried myself in my thoughts.
I entered my room and went to freshen up not overthinking anything because I know my brother will never leave me.

Never ever!

Ohh shit I forgot to ask about the payal.
If I ask now will he scold me , nahh he can't but why should I disturb him , let it be for now .

However one thing is still there , why was Mom smiling and why didn't she react like before , compared to other days , today she was literally calm .

Something is fishy. Something is going on in her mind .

For now I have to clean these jeans , that muddy bastard did not even say a simple sorry . Mannerless behaviour.

My jeans !!

Knock knock*

Yess !!
I replied hearing a knock on my room door.

"Dinner is ready ,please come downstairs beta ". Ramu kaka called , I already told them to not disturb me so why are they asking me for dinner.

Should I go ?

Maybe I should !

As I went downstairs I noticed everyone was silent, unusual and Bhai was clenching his fist , controlling his anger.

"She is not going to marry that cheap bastard"

"Oh please he is not cheap , he owns a company and earn good it will be a great opportunity for your father to take his business to new heights ,So I don't think Drishti will object"

"Seriously he is an Oldman, I am not going to let my sister marry him"

"First let's meet , then further we will discuss"

" See Papa has gone for a business trip and in his absence I don't want you to make any decisions for us , you understand ?"

"Beta I am her mom , obviously I will see a good person for her"

"I don't agree with you, so don't try convince me"

I was hearing this conversation from stairs so without hearing further I headed back to my room , wow she is trying to marry me off"

" I will definitely not going to marry ,not yet "
That's my decision.

Sitting on my study table , I started thinking of my father - will he support me if I said NO ?
Will he listen to me ?

Opening my books I just put my head down, closing my eyes trying not to hear the inner voices .

Author's POV

Unknowingly Drishti drifted to her sleep with thoughts lingering in her mind .

On Other hand, her mother is all set to marry her.
On call (Her mother):

"Don't forget about deal, you will get the girl"

"Yes , yes she is ready to meet you"

"Just transfer my money to my bank account before you meet her"

The man : "You will only get the money when I will meet that girl"

"Okay so I will send that girl to your cafe tomorrow , deal"

The man : "hmm"

Call ended

"It is going to be a very fun , soon she will be out of this house "
